Transition to Office 2007/2008 - New File Formats

All of the Microsoft Office 2007 and Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac programs use new default file formats based on the Extensible Markup Language (XML). XML is an open standard, and the change makes it easier to move files between different applications. It also makes file sizes smaller than those saved in the old binary formats.

  • Excel: .xlsx
  • Powerpoint: .pptx
  • Access: .accdb
