Send Email From an Off-Campus Location

Topics:

Some major Internet Service Providers (ISPs) have begun to block the default mail port to help reduce spam. For this reason, if you find you cannot send mail from an off-campus location, you may wish to try changing your email settings to use a different SMTP(outgoing mail) port. Alternatively, you may wish to call your ISP to request they turn on port 25.

  1. Go to your email account settings (Click here for Thunderbird email client instructions)
  2. Choose the settings for your outgoing mail server.
  3. Enter 587 as your port.
  4. Choose TLS as the secure connection type.

Alternatively, you may use these instructions:

  1. Go to your email account settings (Click here for Thunderbird email client instructions)
  2. Choose the settings for your outgoing mail server.
  3. Enter 465 as your port.
  4. Choose SSL as the secure connection type.
  5. Check the box for "Use name and password."
