Set Up Apple OSX 10.5 (Leopard) Mail

Once these steps are completed, you will be able to get your ArtSci email with OSX 10.5 Mail. Before you begin, you need to have the following :

  1. A valid ArtSci account (Username and password are mailed to students automatically once they are registered. Faculty and Staff accounts are requested by the hiring Department. Contact us if you need help.)
  2. Your University (@wustl.edu) email address (listed in WebStac/ WebFac)
  3. A way to connect to the Internet, such as:
    • An ethernet connection in a WashU facility or
    • A modem dialing into the ArtSci modem bank, or a DSL line, Cable Modem, etc.

Once you have this information, follow the steps below:

From the dock select Mail.

Unless you have configured Mail before, you will see the "Welcome to Mail" Window: If you have set up accounts previously, go to the "File" menu and select "Add Account"

General Information

  • Full Name = Your name
  • Email Address = Your University "@wustl.edu" email address
  • Click "Continue"

Incoming Mail Server

  • Account Type = IMAP
  • Account Description = Anything you want to name the account
  • Incoming Mail Server = artsci.wustl.edu
  • User Name = Your artsci username without the @artsci.wustl.edu
  • Password = Your ArtSci password. (Leave this blank if you would prefer to enter your password each time you open Mail)

Outgoing Mail Server

Outgoing Mail Server = artsci.wustl.edu

Click "Continue"

Account Summary

To verify that your settings are correct, go to the Mail menu and choose Preferences

You will see three tabs; Account Info, Mailbox Behaviors and Advanced. Make sure the settings for each of those tabs match the images below. For additional help, contact ArtSci Tech Support at 935-8077 or send us an email.
