Filter Email Marked with *WU-SPAM*

Below are some instructions on how to filter those messages tagged with *WU-SPAM*. Before filtering, it is important to understand the risks. There is always a very small possibility that a good message will be marked as SPAM. So any filtering does risk having a good message deleted.

WebMail and Pine customers:

  1. Go to http://artsci.wustl.edu/ssh
  2. Follow the instructions to login
  3. At the prompt, type: junkfilter
  4. Let junkfilter install
  5. Type exit

Mozilla Thunderbird and Netscape Mail:

  1. Open Netscape Mail
  2. Go to the Tools Menu and select Message Filters
  3. Click New
  4. Filter name: WU-SPAM
  5. Select "Match all of the following"
  6. Select Subject contains and enter: *WU-SPAM*
  7. Select your desired Action. Delete is near the bottom of the action list.

Outlook:

  1. Open Outlook
  2. Select Inbox in your folder listing
  3. Go to the Tools menu and select Rules Wizard
  4. Click New
  5. Select Start creating a rule based on a template
  6. Select Move messages based on content
  7. Select with specific words in subject or body
  8. At bottom, click on Specific Words.
  9. Type in *WU-SPAM* and click Add
  10. At bottom, click specified
  11. Open Personal Folders and select Deleted Items
