Microsoft released Windows Vista in 2007. To ensure that Arts & Sciences Computing will be able to provide complete user support for the Vista operating system, we have begun research and testing of this software.
While we are preparing to integrate this software into our community, please note that we are not yet able to provide complete support for this product. Should you encounter difficulty using Windows Vista, we will do our best to solve your problems. However we cannot guarantee a complete solution.
Currently, Windows Vista is not compatible with some frequently-used software at Washington University. In time, we believe many of these compatibility problems will be eliminated by updates.
Faculty and staff members in Arts & Sciences who receive new or refurbished computers this summer (2008), will be getting Windows XP. We are aware that consumer products which students may wish to purchase are currently only available with Windows Vista. We do not anticipate any problems with students coming to campus with Windows Vista because any incompatible software will be available in computer labs and classrooms.
Until we can grant Windows Vista our official seal of approval and can provide complete user support, we advise all our Windows clients to continue using Windows XP Professional (with Service Pack 3). By using supported software, you can be assured that we will solve your issues in a quick and complete manner.
